Mercy Ships: Building a responsive website using a customised WordPress theme

Mercy Ships brings medical services to some of poorest countries in Africa. The world’s largest hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, travels from port to port to bridge the gaps in local health care systems and serve the dire and immediate needs of the people. At the same time, Mercy Ships provides a variety of training opportunities for medical professionals.

This year, Mercy Ships has launched a special initiative on 19 October 2016 – Cargo Day. The global shipping and trading community will unite to raise money for Mercy Ships. Participants will be able to pledge cargoes, make donations and donate their commissions in favour of Mercy Ships. Darwin Digital built a website for this unique day with the goal to raise money to improve the lives of millions of people. Taking care of all necessary backend and frontend development, Darwin Digital delivered a responsive website that keeps track of the total amount of money and cargoes pledged to Mercy Ships.

  • Development and installation of customised WordPress theme

As backend specialists, Darwin Digital developed and installed a custom WordPress theme for the website to make sure it was tailored to the needs of Cargo Day. The custom build allowed Darwin Digital to meet the exact requirements and specifications of this unique event.

  • Dynamic charts keep track of donations

The frontend of the Cargo Day website features dynamic charts that display how much money has been pledged and raised so far. On Cargo Day itself, the charts will be automatically updated and keep track of donations. This solution built the charts using ChartJS and JSON files produced by the WordPress RESTful API.
