Inside Darwin Digital – Daniel Kaempf

Daniel is one of the Co-Founders of Darwin Digital. With over 15 years of experience in managing digital projects, he is in charge of business operations at Darwin Digital. After telling us what inspired him to launch a new digital agency, he shares some surprising web development insights.

You are one of the Co-Founders of Darwin Digital. Tell us why you decided to start your own agency?

I have been working in digital communications for more than 15 years. I know all about the difficulties of navigating the digital environment and I wanted to make this knowledge available to business owners, entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Lake Geneva area. That’s why I launched Darwin Digital together with my business partner Michael O’Sullivan.

What makes Darwin Digital different from other digital agencies?

What’s really important to me is that we see our clients as partners and work with them in a collaborative way. Only when we really understand the needs of our clients can we deliver the services that will advance their business. The biggest reward is our client’s being successful.

You have over 15 years of experience in managing digital projects, especially web design and building websites. Tell us what are the most common pitfalls when it comes to web development?

Everything stands and falls with a good plan. Before you start to design, develop or write anything you need to map out our client’s goals and objectives and then build the structure of your site around them. And of course we need to make sure that we engage our clients along the way. It’s crucial that our clients know exactly what is happening and that they are involved in every step of the web development process.

What are the most challenging aspects of developing a website?

The major chunks of building websites are planning, content production and actual web development. However, finishing a website is the hardest part of the entire process. You need to make sure that all the little details are perfect and that everything is ready for the day of the launch.

What is the one tool you absolutely need to be productive – apart from your computer of course?

The ultimate tool for me is Skype. Skype allows us to manage teams that are based on the other end of the world and have conference calls with clients that are scattered in different locations. Without it we wouldn’t be able to work in a global environment.
